It takes hard work, dedication and practice to reach the top but if you are committed to improving your game you can achieve anything in football.

To put you on the right path, I’ve teamed up with my friends at the World’s best footy brand, UMBRO, to give you three top tips to being the next football star and, who knows, the future England captain.

Good luck

John Terry
UMBRO Ambassador
Captain of England and Chelsea

Run faster, think faster, play faster

Speed is one of the most important areas of the game. You have to think faster than your opponent, be quick with, or without, the ball and improving fitness levels and speed across the ground will give you an edge.

Having the right footwear is crucial. I love the UMBRO XBOOT Vengeance, which are light but feature ‘Impact Control’ technology, which means I don’t lose any of my speed and I can still make a strong tackle!

Control everything within your control

Football is a game of control. Practice your ball control, so that you can react to whatever the game throws at you. Figure out where your strengths and weaknesses lie, so that you can become an all-round better player.

Finally, make sure you wear the right clothes. UMBRO’s Evolution X gear has ‘Climate Control’ technology which keeps you warm when it’s cold and cool during hotter weather, which leaves you to concentrate on your game.

Keep learning and improving

There’s no substitute for practice and only a fool thinks he knows everything. I’m still learning every day, I still practice every day and because of that I stay at the top of my game.

Follow this advice and you can become a great player and have plenty of fun along the way.
